Midlands manufacturer, AV Birch, have created a new product line, AVisor, to address the immediate needs of the heathcare sector. Face visors, which provide protection for workers in care environments, are in high demand and short supply across the world due the outbreak of the Coronavirus, Covid-19.
In a matter of days, the components have been stocked and a brand-new assembly line created to produce the new product. Over 1000 AVisors have been readied so far, with another 20,000 in production. David Tilsley-Curtis at AV Birch said “We have manufactured complex medical equipment which has shipped all over the world in relatively small numbers, but this is new for us.”
The AVisor is being made with assistance from designers Labman, who have been helpful in sourcing the component parts. David said “The design of the single-use face visor is proven; the problem is that there is not enough production capacity to cope with the unprecedented demand. One of our key strengths is solving problems, so the whole team has been focused on this for the last few days, and now we have products ready to supply.”
AV Birch has committed to donating the first 1000 AVisors to healthcare professionals and is inviting anyone to contribute to a crowdfunding campaign to allow them to give even more away. The £5000 appeal has already passed the half-way stage, with almost 100 contributors donating over £2,500.
Despite only being a few days into production, care homes and hospitals have contacted the company for samples and orders have already been placed.
David also pays tribute to the staff at AV Birch; “The response from the team has been amazing. We have had volunteers coming in over the Easter weekend to get the first AVisors ready. Everyone realises just how important PPE is and it’s a privilege to be part of this amazing team.”
